When assessing a young child’s development consider the four fields of developmental skills:
- gross motor
- vision and fine motor
- hearing, speech and language
- social, emotional and behavioural
The acquisition of developmental abilities follows a similar pattern between children, but may vary in rate, and still be normal. The Developmental Chart gives the median age, in other words when half the population acquire a skill.
