Professor Chris Verity

Consultant Paediatric Neurologist

Professor Chris Verity is a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, where he has been practicing since 1985. He specializes in paediatric neuro-epidemiology, focusing on neurological disorders, seizure outcomes, and the relationship between vaccination and neurological disease. Prof. Verity’s career has spanned multiple prestigious institutions, including Great Ormond Street Hospital and Bristol Royal Hospital for Sick Children, where he refined his expertise in paediatric neurology. He also trained as a Paediatric Neurology Fellow at the Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, gaining international experience in pediatric neurological care. His research focuses on progressive intellectual and neurological deterioration (PIND) in children, leading the national study on PIND through the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU). The study aims to detect cases of variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) in children, ensuring early identification and intervention. His work has contributed to global discussions on neurodegenerative diseases, shaping diagnostic and treatment strategies for pediatric patients. Beyond his research, Prof. Verity has published extensively on seizure outcomes in children, refining clinical approaches to epilepsy management. His studies on vaccination and neurological disease have helped clarify the impact of immunization on pediatric neurological health, ensuring that public health policies are evidence-based.
